From servicing systems to new installations, we work with mechanical contractors around the cities. We have been working on and wiring mechanical systems for 20 years. Maintenance and repairs are a necessity when it comes to these pieces of equipment. But, they should also be updated with new technology throughout the years. We deal a lot of times with pumps for these mechanical systems. Many pumps that run chilled or hot water through buildings are started and stopped by a motor starter. Motor starters are getting outdated and aren’t very efficient. Many customers are having us replace these starters with Variable Speed Drives (VFD’s). VFD’s soft start the motor to save on wear and tear, VFD’s run your motors more efficiently at lower amperage, and also are very user-friendly making tuning and controlling the motor very easy.

Considering we specialize in industrial and commercial work, we run into certain facilities that have excessive amounts of dust, flammable gases or vapors, or ignitable fibers/flyings. These hazardous locations need to be wired and deviced in specific ways to abide by the National Electrical Code (NEC). Most of the time that involves us running a thicker gauge metal conduit (Intermediate Metal Conduit or Rigid Metal Conduit) that needs to be threaded and use threaded fitting. BME has the ability and experience to bend and thread rigid pipe and wire your equipment according to the NEC. There are many other criteria that need to be met for the wiring methods in hazardous locations and here at BME we have to expertise to perform that work.

One of the very unique things we do is wire overhead bridge cranes and small electrical maintenance jobs on them. We will travel the whole Midwest doing these jobs because the lack of people that are familiar enough to wire them. A typical job may consist of putting up conductor bar along the runway so the bridge and hoist can collect its power, wiring the bridge motors, the hoist itself hanging on the bridge, the pendant to operate the crane, finally setting the upper and lower limits of the hook, and any other electrical add-ons the crane may have. As each crane job may seem similar, they all differ from one another. Sometimes we will wire a hoist on a jib crane structure, a hoist on a monorail, or even a hoist that is stationary that just runs the hook up and down from the pendant control. A popular update we wire on existing cranes is converting from the pendant style control to a radio control so the operator can move freely around the workspace while still operating the crane. Basically, if you have an overhead crane or want an overhead crane in your shop we are the electricians you want to wire it.
